The Performance Working Group calls for proposals in conversation with the 2018 Cultural Studies Association Conference theme of “Interventions.” Proposals for individual papers, full panels, and roundtables that engage the conference theme through performance and performance theory are invited along with other activist and artistic interventions.
The Performance Working Group investigates performance, broadly construed, as it comes to bear on cultural, social, political, and economic formations. The Performance Working Group is especially concerned with performances of race, gender, class, ability, sexuality, and nation, as well as the ways in which these performances resist, embrace, and/or define historical and contemporary politics and institutions. While the Performance Working Group favors mutually-constitutive materialist intersectionality, a wide range of disciplinary and theoretical approaches and methodologies are welcome.
