The thirty-fourth annual meeting of the Gulf South History and Humanities Conference, hosted by the University of South Alabama, will be held in Mobile, Alabama, October 13-15, 2016, at The Admiral Hotel.

The theme of the meeting is Transitions between Peace and War, such as 1816, 1866, 1916 and 1946 in particular.  The conference invites all researchers and scholars to submit proposals for panels, roundtable discussions, workshops and performances that explore this theme in the context of the Gulf South and the Circum-Caribbean.  The conference also welcomes proposals that explore the history, ethnography, archaeology and cultures of the above region from a variety of disciplines including history, literature, economics, technology, commerce and political developments.

Submissions for an individual paper should be sent to Dr. Donald DeVore,, as a Word document attachment.  It shall contain a title, a 150-word abstract of the paper, and a one-page vita.  In the subject line please put "2016 Gulf South Paper."  Hard copies may be sent to Dr. Donald DeVore, Department of History, 5991 USA Drive North, Room 344, University of South Alabama, Mobile, AL 36688.  An e-mail confirmation will follow.

Submissions for a theme panel, sent as a Word-document attachment, shall contain a title, a brief description of the theme (not to exceed 150 words), a 150-word abstract of each paper, a one-page vita for each participant including a moderator/commentator, as well as a list of all participants.

Submissions for a roundtable forum or discussion, sent also as a Word-document attachment, must have a title, a 150-word description of the topic, a complete list of participants including the moderator, accompanied by individual vitas of all parties.
