Michelle Ridout, a PHD student at the University of Rochester, and myself have come together to present on the issue of interpreting women's history at historic house museums in meaningful ways and how house museums are ultimately products of the time period in which they are created. My proposal, "The Persistence of Feme Covert: Uncovering Women's History at House Museums" focuses on the Frank House, a house museum located in Kearney, Nebraska, as a case study. Ridout's proposal consists of a case study of the Susan B. Anthony House. For a more details on my proposal, it can be viewed in full at: http://ncph.org/phc/2017-annual-meeting-topic-proposals/the-persistence-of-feme-covert-uncovering-wome-ns-history-at-house-museums/. Ridout and I are looking for another individual interested in presenting on a similar topic or theme for the 2017 annual NCPH conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. Proposals are due by July 15th.
