Calls for articles and essays on Chinese Americans history/studies and Chinese in America history/studies 2024 issue

Published annually since 1987, Chinese America: History and Perspectives—the Journal of the Chinese Historical Society of America, a peer-review journal published by the Chinese Historical Society of America is currently accepting articles for its 2024 issue. Chinese America: History and Perspectives is interested in articles/essays on any and all topics related to Chinese American history, as well as other topics related to Chinese American studies. We are interested in oral history, community history, and other historical narratives that document the Chinese experience in the United States. 

Contributors are encouraged to submit an abstract prior to submitting a full paper. The deadline for the abstract submissions is Feb. 15, 2024. Abstracts should be no longer than half a page, and single space. After the initial review, full articles for the selected abstracts should be submitted by March 1, 2024. The word count range must be between 3000-8000 words, not including references and endnotes. Photographs are welcome as long as contributors can grant copyright permission, and provide a high-resolution version in JPEG format.

All accepted authors will have to be or become members of the Chinese Historical Society of America before their works are published by the journal. Membership information is available at: https://chsa.org/membership/   

Manuscripts should be formatted according to the Chicago Manual of Style.

Chinese America: History and Perspectives is a scholarly indexed journal available through EBSCO, PQ, JSTOR, Libris, etc.

As a pointer:

• Avoid footnotes.  All notes should be placed at the end of the article as endnotes.

Contributors will be sent a copyedited proof for review before publication.

The Chinese Historical Society of America promotes the contributions and legacy of the Chinese in America through its exhibitions, publications, and educational and public programs in the Museum and Learning Center. The Chinese Historical Society of America Museum is the oldest organization in the country dedicated to the interpretation, promotion, and preservation of the social, cultural, and political history and contributions of the Chinese in America.
