The Canadian Science and Technology Historical Association / Association pour l’histoire de la science et de la technologie seeks applicants for the position of Editor-in-Chief of the journal Scientia Canadensis. This is a volunteer position and the term is for five years.

Scientia Canadensis, CSTHA/AHSTC’s official journal, aims at building understanding of the history of science, technology, and medicine in Canada. An open, scholarly, refereed journal since 1981, it includes original research and historiographical articles, shorter research notes, critical book reviews, and bibliographies. The ideal editor would have recognized expertise in the history of science, technology or medicine in Canada; a compelling vision for the future of the journal; the ability to attract established and new scholars to publish in the journal; managerial, organizational, and editorial to help oversee the editorial cycle in collaboration with the managing editor; tact in communicating with authors; membership in CSTHA/AHSTC; and institutional support for the duration of the appointment. Bilingualism is an asset but is not mandatory. The Editor-in-Chief will have the support of the Managing Editor, William Knight (who is responsible for the digital production of the journal); Assistant Editor and the French Book Review Editor, Mahdi Khelfaoui; and English Book Review Editor, Beth Robertson.

Applications should include:

  • cover letter, which includes the applicant’s name, affiliation, and other relevant information, and evidence of the applicant’s ability and experience
  • vision statement of one page, which outlines the applicant’s perspective on challenges and opportunities and future plans for the journal
  • statement of institutional support, if any. CSTHA/AHSTC does not pay for office space, clerical assistance, or release time
  • Curriculum vitae
