The Southeast Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians (SESAH) is now accepting proposals for papers or sessions to be presented at the 2023 SESAH Conference to be held in Little Rock, Arkansas, from September 27-30. The paper sessions will be held on Thursday and Friday, September 28 and 29. Please submit paper and/or session proposals via email at papers@sesah.org by May 4, 2023.

We encourage submissions from: architectural, landscape, preservation, and urban historians; independent scholars and architects; architectural theorists; museum curators; and other scholars in related fields. Submissions from undergraduate and graduate students in these fields are also welcome. Participants need not work in, reside in, or focus their research within the South or the SESAH member states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia). Paper presentations are limited to 20 minutes maximum (approximately 2,300 to 2,500 words.)

Papers on any architectural history topic and session theme are welcome. In addition, we invite submissions addressing the following themes:

  1.         The Built Environments of the Civil Rights Movement
  2.         Collegiate Architecture and Campus Planning
  3.         The Changing Landscapes of Post-War America
  4.         Architectural Spaces of the Contested Past
  5.         The Architecture and Landscapes of the Rural South
