CALL FOR PROPOSALS
On April 20, 2018, the Health Humanities Laboratory at Texas A&M University (http://healthhumanities.sites.tamu.edu/) is hosting a one-day symposium on "The Future of Healthcare." The confirmed guest speakers are Professor Kirsten Ostherr (Rice University, Department of English) and Dr. Ruth Berggren (UT Health San Antonio, Center for Medical Humanities and Ethics).
We invite proposals for individual papers on topics that approach the "Future of Healthcare" from different disciplinary perspectives. The symposium is the culmination of a one-year seminar supported by the Glasscock Center for Humanities Research. Seminar participants have explored "The Future of Healthcare" through four specific strands of research: 1) Global Health and the Humanities; 2) Women’s Health; 3) Visualizing Health and Illness; and 4) Narrative Medicine. Proposals may use these themes as inspiration, or approach the seminar topic from a different angle including historical precedence to contemporary debates.
To be considered for inclusion in the program, please send an abstract of 250 words plus an academic biography of 150 words to the Laboratory convenor, Dr. Jessica Howell, by Monday, January 15th at 5 PM (jmhowell@tamu.edu).
