The concept of the Himalayas–Tibetan Plateau as a “Third Pole” has garnered increasing traction among academicians, policy makers, and analysts over the past decade. With a climate akin to the Arctic and Antarctic, the Third Pole provokes critical study of such environments, offering important lessons learned regarding human endeavors—including military conflict—in such climates and insights into topics such as latency, materiality, and scarcity of resources. We invite researchers to contribute to this issue of Indo-Pacific Perspectives on these and other themes related to the Third Pole.
