*DEADLINE EXTENDED*

25th International Board Game Studies Colloquium: Myths and Legends

11-14 April 2023

Ephesus

Call for Papers

The International Society for Board Game Studies invites proposals for its 25th annual colloquium to be held in Şirince Village near Ephesus (Turkey).

The Board Game Studies Colloquium is a platform aimed at bringing together game scholars from all fields, as well as independent researchers, curators, game inventors, collectors and enthusiasts from all around the world.

As indicated in the subtitle, “Myths and Legends” is this year’s theme. Not excluding other submissions we encourage to keep the double meaning of myth and legends – a long tradition embedded in culture and a story which is not true – as the main theme. What in board games, then, can be regarded as untrue, or a myth? What are the urban myths/legends in board games? Who are the real legends in board games history? Let's discuss these and more in the mythical atmosphere of Ephesus.

Proposals should aim at a 20-minute presentation preferentially in English (contact us otherwise). They should include the following:

• Title

• Abstract (200 to 500 words)

• Author's brief bio

• Other information is also welcome, i.e. recent publications, institutional affiliations, and academic or other relevant credentials.

Submissions should be done via the following form here. Alternatively they might be sent as an email attachment in pdf format to boardgamestudies22@gmail.com until February 22, 2023. You will be notified if your proposal is accepted at the end of February.

Presentations will not exceed twenty minutes to allow time for questions and discussion. PowerPoint or Keynote-type slide documents to support your presentation are welcome. Our intent is to publish contributions as proceedings.

Registration costs are 150€ and 20€ (for students and school teachers). You can register here. Detailed information on traveling to Şirince Village, accommodation, arrangements for the cultural events, and colloquium dinner, and an online booking facility are provided at www.boardgamestudies.jimdofree.com.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to boardgamestudies22@gmail.com

We look forward to receiving your proposals.
