Open Call for Papers sponsored by the Linguistics and Language Studies Interdisciplinary Network of the GSA for the 47th Annual Conference of the German Studies Association, Montreal, Canada, October 5-8, 2023. Deadline: March 10, 2023.
Linguistics and Language Studies in German Studies
The Linguistics and Language Studies Interdisciplinary Network of the GSA invites papers on topics relevant to linguistics and language in German Studies, broadly conceived. We seek to bring together transdisciplinary approaches to the study of both the German language in its various forms, periods, and functions and the study of minority languages of historical and political relevance to German Studies. We welcome papers from the diverse fields for which language is a central object of analysis, including but not limited to:
applied linguistics and language pedagogy
philosophy of language
second language acquisition
new forms and varieties of German (e.g., Kiezdeutsch, Namdeutsch)
Given the location of the 2023 conference, we particularly invite papers on varieties of German spoken in North America in general and in Canada in particular. We also welcome papers from any subfield that employs language as an analytical tool through methodologies such as, but not limited to:
digital text analysis
Please submit a 350 to 500-word abstract and a short bio or CV to Marc Pierce (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Lindsay Preseau (Lpreseau@iastate.edu) by March 10, 2023. We expect to assemble a series of 3-4 panels. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
