Call for Papers for Memorial Section in CLT2 (Chinese Literature and Thought Today)
in Honor of Professor Yingjin Zhang
In 2022, we lost Yingjin Zhang 張英進, Distinguished Professor of Modern Chinese Literature in the Department of Literature at the University of California, San Diego. An internationally acclaimed Chinese film scholar, Yingjin was a pioneer and made innumerable valuable contributions to the fields of cinema studies; modern Chinese studies; visual studies; transmedia studies, urban studies; and comparative literature. His groundbreaking monographs, including The City in Modern Chinese Literature and Film (1996); Cinema and Urban Culture, 1922-1943 (1999); Screening China: Critical Interventions, Cinematic Reconfigurations, and the Transnational Imaginary in Contemporary Chinese Cinema(2002); Chinese National Cinema (2004); and Cinema, Space, and Polylocality in a Globalizing China (2009), as well as his many research articles, have reconfigured our understanding and become integral components of our knowledge of modern Chinese literature and film. Yingjin was also a wonderful, supportive, and encouraging mentor and friend, who inspired generations of scholars to do their best work.
In this commemorative section of CLT 2 (Chinese Literature and Thought Today) (scheduled for publication in December 2023), we invite you to submit research articles as well as other essays which will allow us to give a comprehensive view of Yingjin’s many contributions throughout his career as a teacher and scholar. Contributions may vary in length from 2000 to 5000 words, should engage Yingjin’s scholarship, and must follow all CLT2 format requirements. Please submit an abstract proposal of your contribution by April 1, 2023. Your final article will be due no later than June 15, 2023 to guest editor Géraldine Fiss at firstname.lastname@example.org.
