We are happy to share our new publication on Spatial Practices series:
Pictorial Photography and the American West, 1900-1950: The Broad Movement
This volume takes a refreshing approach to the long-overlooked photographic style of pictorialism in the American West for the first half of the 20th century. The book addresses different aspects of the subject, such as West’s relationship with the eastern centers of art, the diversity of practitioners such as women, Japanese Americans, Indigenous Americans, western rural workers, and the style’s final demise.
As part Brill’s Spatial Practices series, it aims to publish new works in the study of spaces and places which have been appropriated for cultural meanings. The series takes an interdisciplinary approach and combines cultural history, literary and cultural studies, and geography.
