Position Description
The History and Philosophy Program in the School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a tenure-track position in Modern East Asian History. We have a strong interest in candidates working in women/gender, intellectual, religious, or cultural history. We are also interested in candidates with expertise in Digital History. Candidates should be prepared to teach a one-semester lower-level survey of East Asian History (themes/topics from early to modern) along with upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in their field of specialization.
The successful candidate may also contribute to one or more of the interdisciplinary research centers on campus, such as the Center for Asian Studies and the Center for Translation Studies, or to interdisciplinary programs such as the Asian Studies, Ethnic Studies, and Gender Studies minors.
The standard teaching load is two courses per semester. Duties include active research, graduate supervision, normal committee service, and classroom teaching at all levels. Salary is competitive. This position includes an annual research and travel budget.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent, and demonstrate their commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service, which includes a strong commitment to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. All candidates are expected to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals of diverse backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. The appointment commences fall 2023. Doctorate in History or relevant field required.
The Department/Program/School
The History and Philosophy Program at UT Dallas is part of the newly formed School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology. The programs in AHT have a strong tradition of interdisciplinary education and scholarship. UT Dallas is a dynamic, growing research institution with a diverse student body (ca. 31,000) and a strong research faculty. Starting in 2024, the UT Dallas campus will be the site of the Crow Museum of Asian Art.
