Annual Meeting

July 27-29, 2023

Charleston, South Carolina

The St. George Tucker Society, Inc. invites paper proposals for its annual meeting to be held in Charleston, South Carolina, July 27-29, 2023.  The society seeks to encourage junior scholars (defined as early-career professionals no more than five years removed from completion of post-graduate studies engaged in the study of the U.S. South within any humanities/social science field) of the U.S. South to submit proposals for panel on new scholarship in Southern Studies and/or Southern History.

The St. George Tucker Society is an interdisciplinary scholarly organization dedicated to the study of the American South.  Founded in 1990, it holds an annual meeting for members and guests during the summer “lay-by” season.  These meetings feature presentations by established and beginning scholars.  Papers are circulated in advance of the meeting and sessions focus on the engagement between the presenter and the audience.  Meals and libations are normally shared as part of the program schedule in an effort to foster collegiality.  More information can be found here:  http://stgeorgetuckersociety.org/

Please send abstract proposals of approximately 250 words to:  Dr. Lawrence McDonnell (lmcdonn2@gmail.com) and Dr. Kathleen H. Hilliard (khilliar@iastate.edu)

Submission deadline is Friday, April 28, 2023.  Please include a mailing address, phone number, and email address. Please address any questions to the Junior Scholars Panel Chairs, Dr. Lawrence T. McDonnell and Dr. Kathleen H. Hilliard.
