2018 Call for Papers
The History Graduate Student Association (HGSA) at Ohio University invites graduate students to submit research and paper proposals for the 14th Annual Ohio University History Graduate Conference to take place on March 2nd-3rd, 2018. Our theme this year is contemporary problems in Asian security. However, students should feel free to submit papers on a wide range of topics and periods. This conference has traditionally been a smaller venue, and is an excellent opportunity for new graduate students or M.A. students to present their research. There is no fee to submit a paper, and once accepted HGSA will provide information on local accommodations.
The conference will begin the evening of Friday March 2nd with a keynote speech by a renowned historian. The conference will feature keynote speaker Dr. Colleen Woods, who specializes in counter insurgency and the Phillipines. The conference will host multiple panels throughout the day on Saturday March 3rd. Each student will be allotted approximately 20-25 minutes for their presentation, and each panel will end with remarks from a commentator and questions from the audience. We will conclude the conference Saturday evening with a reception.
Graduate students who are interested in presenting at the conference should send an abstract (approximately 250-300 words) and a one-page CV to firstname.lastname@example.org by January 30th, 2018. Acceptance notification will be issued by early Feburary. If accepted, completed research papers should be submitted no later than February 15th, 2018 in order to give commentators enough time to read and prepare.
Professors, if you have colleagues whom you would like to notify about conference, please feel free to share this with any interested parties. If you are are interested in chairing panels or participating in a professionalization panel, we welcome your contributions.
We also encourage and accept completed panel submissions by those who wish to travel and present as a group.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Caitlin Bentley at email@example.com.
