The Scattered Pelican’s “Travel Light: Apprehending Being on the Move” 2023 issue seeks to address the nature of movement in the 21st century, a period preoccupied with the re-interpreting logic, social processes and managing bodies in space under a regime of technological speed.

Articles and book reviews may address (but are not limited to) the following topics:

  • The movement of meaning between languages
  • Mapping movement
  • Movement and historical progress
  • Technologies of movement
  • "Movement" as a metaphor in literature
  • Re-defining movement through nonabelist frameworks

We seek submissions that are pluralistic in regard to methods, approaches, and objects of study within the framework of comparative praxis.

Fields of interest may include: Cultural Studies, Digital Humanities, Disability Studies, Environmental Studies, Film Studies, History, Linguistics, Literary Studies, Media Studies, Philosophy, Postcolonial Studies, Queer and Gender Studies, Theory & Criticism, Translation Studies, and Visual Arts.

Submission Guidelines

The Scattered Pelican accepts full-length journal articles (4000-5000 words) and book reviews (1000-1500 words) in English. The word count must be inclusive of the Works Cited and endnotes, and all texts must follow the MLA style (8th edition). Full submission guidelines can be found on our website.

Please send all submissions to by February 3rd, 2023, at 5 p.m EST. To maintain the integrity of the anonymous peer-review process, please ensure that all personal information and identifying marks are removed from your submission. Additionally, in the email please include your name, abstract keywords, institutional affiliation, and a 50-word biography.
