The ZAZH, Zurich Center for the Study of the Ancient World, offers for the Autumn Semester 2023 a Visiting Professorship Junior in the fields of Egyptology, Ancient Near East studies or Byzantine studies.

Covering fields not represented by a Chair at the University of Zurich, the candidates are expected to increase the visibility of their discipline both within the University, through a 2 hours per week Seminar, and through outreach activity, including one public lecture. These teaching activities, as also the research programme during the time of the Professorship, should incardinate themselves in the general topic of the ZAZH for the year 2023, "The human enigma, between Antiquity and today" ("Das Rätsel Mensch, zwischen Antike und heute"). In exchange, the visiting Professor will benefit from the excellent research infrastructure of the University of Zurich, and from the chance of interdisciplinary exchange with the colleagues of the Center.

The position is offered for four months, and should be occupied, in exclusive dedication, by 1. September 2023 until the end of December 2023. Candidates must have completed their phd and be either already habilitated or on their way to their habilitation or equivalent. The teaching languages may be German or English.

The closing date for applications is December 31st, 2022. Please send your application electronically to geschaeftsfuehrung@zazh.uzh.ch, including motivation letter, curriculum vitae, publications list and a concept for the Seminar and the research to be developed during the time of the Professorship.

For further information about the position, please contact Prof. Dr. José Luis Alonso (joseluis.alonso@rwi.uzh.ch).
