Mercy College 4th Annual History Undergraduate Research Conference

&

Phi Alpha Theta New England Regional Conference

“Truth”

Saturday, 15 April 2023, 10:00am-4:00pm

The School of Liberal Arts, the Department of Humanities, and the History Program at Mercy College, NY are pleased to announce the 4th Annual History Undergraduate Research Conference to take place on Saturday, 15 April 2023. This year, the conference will be held in conjunction with the New England Regional Conference of the Phi Alpha Theta History National Honor Society. All undergraduates from any institution of higher education are encouraged to submit whether they are inducted members of Phi Alpha Theta or not. This combined conference is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students to showcase their research to their peers and experts in the field of history.

This year’s conference theme is “truth.” Papers that explore this theme, broadly defined, from any geographic, temporal, or thematic field in history, are especially welcome. We look forward to making this conference a venue for a variety of scholarly responses and a lively exchange of ideas. Presentations should be no more than 15 minutes, with additional time for questions and discussion. A prize will be offered for the best paper presented at the conference. Papers will be read and judged by a panel of history professors before the conference date.

Undergraduate students who are interested in presenting are asked to submit a 250-word abstract by 24 February 2023. All accepted applicants will have until 31 March 2023 to submit completed papers (not to exceed ten pages). Those wishing to partake in the best paper competition will need to submit their papers and entrance form by 24 March 2023.

A light breakfast and lunch will be served for conference participants and attendees.

Please send all abstracts to Dr. Caitlin Wiesner at cwiesner@mercy.edu. Additionally, we ask all interested applicants to complete the electronic application form.

Mercy College’s Manhattan campus is located near Herald Square (47 W 34th St., New York, NY 10001) and is accessible by public transportation.
