I am a doctoral student at the University of the Rockies. The research for my dissertation is an investigation of the levels of Intercultural Competency Development (ICD) among scholars involved in studying or researching any aspect of Sub-Saharan Africa. To date, no research has investigated the levels of ICD among this critically important group of scholars.
ICD is being evaluated using the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). The IDI produces a variety of scores. The three main scores of interest in this research are Perceived Orientation (PO), Developmental Orientation (DO), and the Orientation Gap (OG). PO indicates the level the participant believes him or herself to be; DO indicates the perspective an individual is most likely to use in situations where cultural differences are encountered; and OG indicates the size of the gap between PO and DO. The IDI is completed online and takes 15 to 30 minutes.
I am asking for volunteers to be participants for this research. Anyone from anywhere who is or has been involved in studying any aspect of Sub Saharan Africa is eligible to participate in this research. The target number to obtain a meaningful level of statistical power is n =108.
All participants will receive a copy of the completed dissertation in pdf format at the conclusion of the project. The data in the results section will reflect group outcomes only. All scores included in the research write up will be aggregate and not associated or connected with any specific individuals. When the IDI is used for research purposes individual scores and reports are generally not distributed. However, I am offering free of charge to individuals who volunteer to be participants in this research a copy of their individualized scores and reports in conjunctions with a follow-up session (via phone) that will provide an adequate interpretation and explanation of individual results. Such sessions would normally costs anywhere from $75 to $150 each. These sessions will be conducted after the research has been completed.
If you are interested in participating in this research simply send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will send the Informed Consent form. Once the signed consent is received, additional information will be forwarded regarding log in instructions for the IDI. Please share this announcement with anyone else you believe might be interested in participating.
Good data on the scholars that study Sub Saharan Africa is not easy to come by. I am hoping to make a significant contribution to improving our understanding of this crucial aspect of African Studies.
Thank you very much.
