We seek paper proposals for a series of panels at the 2023 meeting of the French Colonial Historical Society. The meeting will take place at the Université des Antilles, Martinique, from May 4-6, 2023.

We aim to organize three panels under the theme of "De-Centering France." What does it mean to de-center France in our studies of empire? What does French colonial history look like, if we do not privilege the perspectives of the French metropole, administrators, and colonists? To what extent does this implicate thematic studies ranging from race, to gender, to migration, to indigeneity, to slavery and other forms of labor? What can our scholarship look like, if we remove "France" as the center-point? We aim to incorporate a variety of places and times in each panel.

FCHS has just announced that they extended the CFP deadline to November 30, 2022, so we have extended the deadline for submission to "De-Centering France" to November 22. If you would like your paper to be considered for our panel series, please e-mail the following information to kbrignac@colby.edu by Tursday, November 22, at 11:59PM EST: a 100-200 word paper summary with the title of the paper, your name, institutional affiliation (if applicable), e-mail address, phone number, and a brief (one-page) CV, all integrated into a single file, preferably in MS-Word.

We look forward to reading your proposals. In the event that we have more submissions than slots, we will let everyone know prior to November 30 so that you can still submit your individual paper to FCHS.
