Call for Papers: International Rauf Yekta Symposium, January 06-08, 2023 (Online)

Rauf Yekta (1871-1935), the leading figure of Turkish musicology who is known for his works in different fields of Turkish music such as historiography, theory, composition, performance and archiving will be commemorated by the International Rauf Yekta Symposium on January 06-08, 2023 organized by Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory. Scholars who would like to participate in the symposium with a paper should submit their abstracts by November 28, 2022.


The symposium aims to evaluate Rauf Yekta’s multi-directional identity that bridges tradition and modernity through his written works, his archive containing original manuscripts, the rational aspect of the cataloging and notational transmission of the repertoire, his musician identity, compositions and publications. The symposium is organized in cooperation with the Atatürk High Institution of Culture, Language Atatürk Cultural Center Presidency, and will be held online within the framework of the 250th Anniversary of Istanbul Technical University and the 100th Anniversary of Turkish Republic. The symposium themes include, but are not limited to, the following topics on Rauf Yekta:

Scholars and artists who would like to participate in the symposium with a paper should send an abstract of 300-350 words in Turkish or English as a Word document (.docx) with five keywords to the following address under the title “Özet-Abstract”: .
