CFPR invites you to the ISA RC28 Meeting on 26-28 May, 2016 with the theme: Intergenerational Transfer, Human Capital, and Inequality.  This conference will examine patterns and consequences of intergenerational transfer of money, time, wealth, or psychological resources to human capital development (education, health, trainings, etc) of the population.

Some studies have suggested that family background may have increasingly contributed to the widening social inequality in many societies. Public policies play an important role to redistribute resources in the society.  Countries differ enormously on the extent to which private and public transfer across generations contribute to the development of human capital.  In the 2016 Singapore conference, scholars and policy makers will seek a better understanding of the patterns and implications of these transfers for social stratification and mobility around the world.

The event will be graced by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Singapore Deputy Prime Minister & Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies and Dr Noeleen Heyzer, NUS Board of Trustees & Former Undersecretary General, UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.   Plenary speakers include prominent scholars and book authors such as Xie Yu (Princeton) who is the current RC28 President, Wolfgang Lutz (Vienna University of Economics and Busines), Charles Hirschman (Washington), Frank Furstenberg (Pennsylvania), Robert Hauser (Wisconsin-Madiscon), and Meir Yaish (Haifa).

The conference is organized by the NUS Centre for Family and Population Research (CFPR) in collaboration with the NTU School of Humanities and Social Sciences and supported by NUS GAI, ARI, Department of Sociology and SMU School of Social Sciences.  It will be held at the National University of Singapore Kent Ridge Campus.
