I am looking for co-presenters to create a panel with my paper "British Opposition to Taxation in the Era of the American Revolution" for the PCCBS (Pacific Coast Conference of British Studies), to be held March 24-26, 2023, in Riverside, California. The due date for proposals is Dec. 16, 2022. The paper focuses on how events in America made politically active Britons rethink how taxation affected their own country. British policy makers already understood that commodity taxation was unjust, well beofre 1776, but the American Revolution necessitated enacting new commodity taxes to finance the war. It also highlighted the injustice of making working people pay extra for necessities.
