Call for chapter proposals for an edited volume tentatively titled Imagined Communities, Imaginary Scapes: Asian Africans in Exile. The focus will be on issues of identity and selfhood as explored through literary works, memoirs, social media and other writings. This will be a multi-disciplinary and multi-genre volume and will include literary criticism, creative pieces, and essays from the social sciences and other disciplines. Contributions can be in the form of a scholarly study or essay, a short memoir, a creative piece, or creative non-fiction. While the forced exile of Ugandan Asians will naturally play a prominent part, the volume is more broadly about the exilic experiences of Asian Africans from all parts of Africa, whether now resident on the continent or in the diaspora. Interested authors should send a title (12 words maximum); a brief description of the proposed chapter or submission (300-500 words maximum); and a CV to Dr. Rashna B. Singh at rashna18@msn.com no later than June 1, 2018. Further details about the length and format of the finished piece, final deadlines, etc., will be provided upon acceptance.
