This seminar explores literature through the lens of “heretical kabbalah,”  secular sublimation, and  “modernist mysticism” projects during the nineteenth-, twentieth-, and twenty-first-centuries. Participants are free to analyze any one of these projects in the context of literature and its philosophical underpinnings. We invite papers that look comparatively at narrative traditions globally. We are especially interested in analyses that read "against the grain," that trouble the interpretations of texts within a variety of canons, that explore the suture points of translation, in relation to sacred and profane.
