The 46th Annual Appalachian Studies Association Conference--to be held March 16-19, 2023 at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio--will explore the theme "From Surviving to Thriving" by celebrating the many successes that have renewed the region in more recent times. Special sessions of the conference invite participants to explore progress that has been made in many areas such as healthcare, the economy, education, and the environment. Those living, studying, and working in Appalachia should ask themselves what more can be done in these areas and how do we engage community partners both inside and outside the region in this mission? How do we include everyone in the goal to make Appalachia a region that is celebrated nationwide? Come and explore these ideas together in Athens, Ohio, at "AppalachiaFest" in 2023.

The 2023 Program Committee invites proposals for panels, papers, posters, roundtables, performances, or workshops. Papers and posters should feature original unpublished work in progress. A limited number of scholarships to cover the conference fee is available. EXTENDED deadline for proposals is October 10, 2022, with the preliminary program announced by January 2023.
