In the week starting on October 17, I will conduct an intensive masterclass on Brechtian performance titled Contradictions and Performance. The masterclass will offer the possibility to:

a) Train in Brechtian performance integrating a set of theoretical notions and exercises for actors.

b) Familiarise yourself with the work of Bertolt Brecht not only as a director but also as a playwright and a poet.

c) Explore possible applications of his approach in the contemporary theatre scene.

During the session we will focus on a set of exercises employed by Brecht and practitioners working in his tradition to approach and embody characters and interpret a dramatic text. The masterclass will also allow participants to explore Brecht’s work as a playwright, poet, and director. This includes the use of material drawn from some of Brecht’s most famous works, such as The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, The Mother, and The Life of Galileo.

The masterclass will be held in a single session and repeated three times: Thursday 20 (5-8pm); Saturday 22 (2-5pm); Sunday 23 (2-5pm). Places for each class are limited and assigned on a first come-first served basis. No entrance fee will be charged. However, the event will be employed to advertise future initiatives connected to my research.

Feel free to circulate this message to any of your students, colleagues, and collaborators that could be interested.
