World History Encyclopedia is recruiting book reviewers to write thoughtful reviews of history books.
World History Encyclopedia (https://www.worldhistory.org) is an academic and open-access online history encyclopedia with the mission of improving history research and education worldwide. It publishes a variety of content, including definition entries, articles, and book reviews, and the Encyclopedia's audience include both history professors and students to the general public. All World History Encyclopedia content is academically reviewed and edited. World History Encyclopedia is the education partner of UNESCO Archive, and it is recognized by universities like Oxford University.
The Encyclopedia covers history of any genre, topic, location, and people before 1937, from ancient times to the Enlightenment, and from historical figures' biographies to historical literary theories.
If you are interested in being a book reviewer, please email World History Encyclopedia’s editorial team at editor@worldhistory.org. In the email, please briefly introduce yourself (2-3 sentences would suffice. It is optional to include your CV) and list the history genres you would like to review books in (such as Egyptian history, Medieval England, etc). When a book in your genre is available, we will let you know.
A book review at World History Encyclopedia should:
- Be less than 600 words.
- Summarize the book.
- Evaluate the content and its target audience.
- Compare the book to other publications in that field.
We also welcome suggestions for book reviews. If you would like to review a history book you have read or wish to read, also feel free to contact us. After discussing the book with the editor to decide whether the book is within World History Encyclopedia’s coverage, we will do our best to request the book for you.
Being a book reviewer at World History Encyclopedia is a volunteer position, but it will expose you to a variety of current history scholarship.
