The Routledge History of Religion and Politics in the United States Since 1775
In cooperation with Routledge, Cara Burnidge and Lauren Turek are editing The Routledge History of U.S. Religion and Politics in the United States Since 1775. This handbook will be composed of 66 chapters of approximately 5,000 words each.
The handbook will be a reference for scholars, graduate students, and upper level undergraduates, and as such the chapters will provide an overview of the principal themes of the topic with a focus on discussing recent historiographical trends and interpretations. Major Themes chapters will introduce readers to the changing contours of the history and historiography of U.S. religion and politics on a broad theme throughout U.S. history, whereas the chronological chapters will cover a key theme in the history of U.S. religion and politics during a specific period while also discussing the changing contours of the historiography related to that theme.
We are seeking authors for several chapters. Please see the table of contents at this link, which spells out the themes of each chapter as well as the authors who have already committed to contributing a chapter. If no author is listed, we are still seeking an author for that chapter.
If you would like to contribute a chapter (or suggest an alternative scope for a chapter), please email us at Lturek@trinity.edu and firstname.lastname@example.org to express your interest by August 31, 2022. We would be hoping to receive drafts by January 30, 2023 (though we are open to other deadlines), and are planning to also hold a virtual conference for all contributors in late Spring 2023. All contributors will receive a hard copy of the book once it is published.
