As part of a University of Sydney Faculty Collaborative Research Scheme grant, the American Cultures Workshop at the University of Sydney invites paper proposals for 2016 from scholars across Australia, Asia, New Zealand, the Pacific, Latin America, and the Indian Ocean Basin. Beginning in March 2016, the workshop will meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 5:30-7:00 pm at the University of Sydney.  One workshop a month will be devoted to a scholar from the Sydney metropolitan region while one workshop a month will be devoted to a paper from the broader Pacific and Indian Ocean Basins including Australia, Asia, New Zealand, Latin America, and Africa.  The workshop will cover travel and lodging for scholars from outside of the Sydney region.  Papers should be chapter/article length in-progress drafts and may come from any discipline, but should be accessible to scholars outside of the presenter’s home discipline.  Presenters will be invited to attend a dinner after the workshop. Papers will be pre-circulated a week in advance to workshop participants, who include historians, literary scholars, political scientists, media studies scholars, urban planners and more. At the end of the grant period (2016) presenters will have the opportunity to submit their papers for inclusion in a special journal issue.  To apply to present please send a c.v., a 300-500 word paper abstract, and a list of ideal dates for 2016 by February 10th, 2016:
