Elliot Engel will speak on THE TORTURED GENIUS OF EDGAR ALLAN POE on Friday, March 2, 2017, at 7 pm at Raleigh Moravian Church, 1816 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607. General admission tickets will be $27.00 per person. Advanced purchase is strongly recommended.


Dr. Elliot Engel will examine the bizarre and turbulent life of Poe to uncover the roots of his unique genius. Using anecdotes, analysis, and large doses of humor, Professor Engel will bring to life this most remarkable of American authors who still captures the imagination of every middle and high school student who studies him.


Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. Elliot Engel now lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he has taught at the University of North Carolina, North Carolina State University, and Duke University. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow at UCLA. While at UCLA he won that university’s Outstanding Teacher Award.
