This conference is the continuation of a reflection conducted during a study day held at the TROYES IUT on March 23, 2017, under the title "Images, Realities and Fictions in North / South Relations" , which is our research theme as well as  a cooperation project "CMEP PHC TASSILI" between the University of Oran 2 Mohamed Ben Ahmed, Laboratory of Languages, Literature and Civilization, History in Africa (LLCHA) and the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, Center for Research on Jobs and Professionalisation (CÉREP).

Disciplines

Our research program is multidisciplinary. It covers both information and communication sciences as well as cinematographic and audiovisual studies, linguistics, literature, educational sciences, political science and sociology.

The reception of a certain number of iconic and audiovisual supports: photographs, documentary films, docu-fiction, comics, media ... is our object of study. Our primary objective would be to interrogate these different media in all their density and complexity and this in different contexts of production and dissemination. In other words, we would measure the impact of these mediations on the various publics located on both sides of the Mediterranean. How does the reception vary according to the different contexts and spaces of diffusion? And how would different socio historical and cultural factors influence reception?

Through a semantic decoding, we propose to define the effects of meaning as well as the generated effects of these hybrid objects or signifying spaces in terms of education and training, through interviews, field surveys and analyses of any document that allows the reception of audiovisual objects to be observed.

Themes

In terms of interculturality and exchange between the North and the South, the question will be that of describing, explaining and measuring the scope of the hybrid iconic and audiovisual media forms that mobilize the narrative for didactic purposes, such as biographical films (biopics), historical films (heritage), documentary films that offer a scenario of reality, or what is commonly called docu-fiction.

This international colloquium will be open to the study of any type of iconic and audiovisual object: cinema, television, web documentary, drawing of news, comics, photography, painting, caricature, etc.

These audiovisual forms will mainly address five themes:

- Cooperation (actions of public policies and NGOs)
- Conflicts (past and recent)
- Environment and sustainable development (environmental, health and social dimensions)
- Slavery (history of slavery and current forms of enslavement)
- Migration (diaspora, flows, migration policies, training and work of migrants)
A sixth cross-cutting theme on gender could be addressed (on women or men, on men and women, on sexualities).

Methodologies

Will be valued:

- Comparative approaches that take into account audiences in their diversity (i.e. audiences of different nationalities, or different audiences in the same territory).

- Reception studies: if the analyses of the various iconic and audiovisual corpora can study the representation of the topics addressed, the approaches that will be particularly appreciated are those that seek to evaluate the effects of the mediation methods on the public through field surveys , collection of data in the context of interviews, the observation of social networks or the study of critical texts.
