International Language Week – Athens 2022

The Institute of Multimedia and Language Applications and the Institute of German Language Literature and Comparative Literature of the Department of German Language and Literature of the University of Athens (NKUA) in cooperation with the Language Center and the Institute of Intercultural Communication of the Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences (co-hosts) will organise this year's International Language Week (ILW) from October 10 to October 14, 2022. In addition to Aschaffenburg/Germany, previous ILW were held in Taipei/Taiwan, Billings/Montana and Seinäjoki/Finland.

Τhe motto "Mapping Cross Roads: Cultures, Languages and Literatures" of the ILW 2022 intends to provide the appropriate framework for the further development of existing collaborations on the one hand and for the facilitation of  new trans- and intercultural collaborations on the other.

The week will include joint courses, workshops and lectures and is aimed at lecturers and young scholars whose fields and expertise can be integrated in an interdisciplinary way in the following areas, among others:

  • Intercultural Communication
  • Foreign language didactics
  • Literature and comparative literature
  • Didactics of Literature
  • Cultural studies
  • Applied Linguistics
  • Theoretical Linguistics

If you would like to enrich the ILW with innovative ideas, new methodological approaches and interdisciplinary concepts, you are very welcome to participate in joint courses and workshops as well as to give lectures, conduct workshops and offer courses to students.

Participants from Europe can be funded within the framework of ERASMUS+ through both teaching mobility (STA) and staff mobility (STT). The former option requires an ERASMUS agreement with the University of Athens, the latter does not. Please consult your International Office for advice on ERASMUS + funding options.

Contributions (Abstracts with max. 300 words) can be submitted with a short bio until June 15, 2022 at Accepted papers and the preliminary programme will be announced July 20. The publication of selected papers in the monographic series of our online journal  is planned.

Conference languages are English, German and Greek.

The participation fees for presenters without contributions as well as for hybrid presentations are 50 Euro, for face-to-face presentations 150 Euro. Students and doctoral candidates are exempt from registration fees. Online participants without contributions also do not have to pay participation fees. Contributions in face-to-face form are especially welcome to facilitate a lively and vibrant scientific exchange.

Please forward this mail to all potentially interested parties. We look forward to welcoming you in Athens! An attractive social programme will support and enrich the professional exchange of 2022 ILW.
