The Association for Gravestone Studies requests paper and workshop submissions for its 2022 hybrid conference. The conference will be held virtually from June 9th through June 11th for all attendees. From June 15th through June 19th there will be an onsite, in person, conference at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts with webcasting available for those who continue to attend virtually (including presenting papers).
Research on all aspects of the study of gravestones, cemeteries, or closely related topics is eligible: preservation and management issues, carver studies, marker styles and motifs, interpretive programming, burial practices, historic surveys, cemeteries histories, best practices in conservation, etc. Previous presenters have come from art, history, folklore, geography, conservation, law, anthropology, art history, cultural studies, historic preservation, popular culture, history, and other allied fields. The 2021 conference had 200+ attendees from 8 nations and 35 US states!
This conference in an opportunity to have extended conversations with conservators, cemeterians, historicans, advocates, preservationists, and academics from around the world who practice, reserach, and promote gravestone studies. Proposal reviews will begin April 15, 2022. The application form includes additonal information about virtual and in person presentation format options.
