Friends,
May I ask for any ideas you may have on Kipling's famous "Copybook Gods"-in regard to its proper interpretation-who has the best commentary so that I might introduce the poem to my seniors and sophomores?

By far the most incisive interpretation of Kipling appears in Bridget Brophy's FIFTY BOOKS WE CAN DO WITHOUT. (She excludes the Bible because it is a tgranslation.)

My favorite is George Orwell's essay on Kipling. His explanation of the difference between verse (Kipling) and poetry (take your pick) is dead on.
