Heinrich Heine and Human Rights

Discussions of human rights are often informed by the canon of social and political thought. The panel explores how the poetry, prose, and critical writings of the German Jewish writer Heinrich Heine intervene in, and contribute to, the 19th-century debate on human rights and anticipate later human rights conceptions. Papers on Heine, his interlocutors, and on human rights discourse around 1848 are welcome.
