Dear Colleagues,
I would like to invite you to a conversation with Martin T. Adam (University of Victoria) about his new pop-rock opera, "What the Buddha Never Taught", on December 16, 5-6:30pm Los Angeles time. In addition to discussing the challenges of adapting Buddhism to the stage and the ethical dilemas of presenting westerners' encounters with Buddhism through pop songs, we will have an opportunity to hear and see songs and scenes from the musical. Registration is on eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/buddhist-studies-on-stage-what-the-buddha-never-taught-a-rock-opera-tickets-220296531857 (registration is free, donations are welcome).
This conversation is part of Mangalam's ongoing Spotlight series on the imagination in Buddhist thought, practice and art. If you are working on something related to this topic, please get in touch. Also check out the upcoming course on Buddhism and the Imagination (early bird discount through Dec 21: EBIRD21, scolarships of all levels still available; write karinm@mangalamresearch.org for how to apply).
Best wishes,
Karin Meyers
