Dear H-Buddhism Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce a new publication by Dr Alice Collett, I Hear Her Words: An Introduction to Women in Buddhism, from Windhorse Publications: Cambridge, UK. Alice Collett’s area of specialisation is women in Indian Buddhism, and her books include the edited volume Women in Early Indian Buddhism: Comparative Textual Studies (2013) and the monograph, Lives of Early Buddhist Nuns: Biographies as History (2016). She is currently Director of the South Asia History Project and General Editor of the UKABS journal, Buddhist Studies Review.
As its title indicates, Alice’s new book is an introduction to the field of women in Buddhism in India and beyond, from the Buddha’s time up until today, aiming to provide an accessible survey of recent research for non-specialists. The book will provide an ideal introduction to gender studies in Buddhism and the history of women in the tradition. I Hear Her Words should be a useful resource for courses in Buddhist studies, women’s studies, or Asian history.
