POSITION> Visiting Assistant Professor in Buddhism and East Asian religions, Kenyon College
The Religious Studies Department of Kenyon College, a highly selective liberal arts college in Gambier, OH, invites applications for a two-year visiting assistant professor (VAP) in Buddhism and East Asian religions. The VAP will be responsible for teaching five courses over two semesters (2/3 or 3/2) for each of the two years. Candidates will be expected to teach one section each year of the department’s introductory course, Encountering Religion in its Global Context, as well as introductory and advanced-level courses in Buddhism and/or East Asian religions. The courses will be taught in person on our campus. The term of appointment will be July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2024. A Ph.D. in hand by August 30, 2022 is required.
A complete application will include: 1) A cover letter detailing teaching experience and teaching philosophy, including methods for incorporating issues related to diversity, inclusion and equity into teaching and advising, as well as a description of scholarly work and trajectory; 2) A curriculum vitae; and 3) Contact information for three recommenders. Letters of reference, writing samples, statements of teaching philosophy, and unofficial transcripts will be requested from candidates selected for an initial interview.
