The only reason to forward the link below--which may be primarily, or only, interesting to colleagues in the US--is that the scholar involved is Paul Griffiths, whom you may know from an earlier stage of his career when he specialized in Buddhist philosophy, and in fact was one of the very leadingmost figures in its study, before leaving the field entirely in favor of Catholic theology.
I express no opinion about the content of the current controversy, and dare to bring it to your attention only because of the identity of the protagonist. (I should note, however, that this is not an entirely marginal issue; I learnt of it first from the Chronicle of Higher Education, hardly a fringe publication.)
