CfP: Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH)

The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) invites comprehensive proposals of individual papers, panels, performances, films, round-tables, workshops, conversations, or alternative formats for its national conference scheduled for October 2-6, 2019 in Charleston, SC.

The Program Committee seeks a diverse slate of presenters and panels representing a variety of professional and institutional backgrounds, perspectives, and voices on this year's theme BLACK MIGRATIONS. The committee also encourages proposals from scholars working across a variety of temporal, geographical, thematic, and topical areas in Black history, life and culture. We welcome presentations that probe the traditional fields of economic, political, diplomatic, intellectual, and cultural history; the established fields of urban, race, ethnic, labor, and women's/gender history as well as the rapidly expanding fields of sexuality, LBGTQ, and queer history; environmental, digital, and public history; carceral state studies; and transnational and global studies.

ASALH fosters a space of inclusion that seeks submissions from a variety of practitioners including: academics, researchers, students, information scientists, new professionals, first-time presenters, activists, and other allied professions.

Deadline for Early Bird submission is March 1, 2019. The regular submissions deadline is April 1, 2019. Early bird submissions will receive primary consideration. Given the popularity of this year's conference, the committee strongly advises early submission. All proposals must be received electronically to ASALH through the All Academic online system (click here).
