The first two chapters are theoretical. Contradicting the techno-enthusiastic discourse on the 'data deluge', they set out the state of the art and show the relevance of the blank map in an era of unequal geodigitisation of the world. They also situate the approach within the field of critical data studies. Three case studies then explore three contemporary metrological systems through their blanks, voids and cartographic omissions: the detection of illegal gold mining, the measurement of biodiversity and the mapping of informal settlements. They focus on Amazonia, with a zoom on French Guiana in each case. Finally, there is a discussion on various forms of resistance to the filling in of contemporary maps. Counter-mapping and cartographic elopement are discussed as two alternative logics of action. A central booklet completes the set. A patchwork of a dozen visuals, it offers a journey through a series of 'cartographic silences'.

Les deux premiers chapitres sont théoriques. Prenant le contrepied des discours techno-enthousiastes sur le « déluge de données », ils dressent l’état de l’art et montrent l’actualité du blanc des cartes à l’ère de l’inégale géonumérisation du Monde. Ils permettent également d’inscrire la démarche dans le champ des critical data studies. Trois études de cas proposent ensuite une exploration par leurs blancs, leurs vides, leurs omissions cartographiques, de trois systèmes métrologiques contemporains : autour de la détection de l’orpaillage illégal, de la mesure de la biodiversité et de la cartographie des habitats informels. Elles sont centrées sur l’Amazonie avec, à chaque fois, un zoom sur la Guyane. Une discussion propose enfin une réflexion sur diverses formes de résistance au comblement des cartes contemporaines. La contre-cartographie et la fugue cartographique sont ainsi évoquées comme deux logiques d’action alternatives. Un cahier central vient compléter l’ensemble. Patchwork d’une douzaine de visuels, il propose un voyage à travers une série de « silences cartographiques ».
