Hello H-CivWar readers,
today we continue our video interview series with Adam H. Domby. This series will continue with two videos per week every Wednesday for the next few weeks.
Recently, I had the opportunity to interview Adam H. Domby via Zoom. We talked about his new book The False Cause: Fraud, Fabrication, and White Supremacy in Confederate Memory, which came out in February 2020 with the University of Virginia Press. The interview is broken up so that you can easily use the material in class.
Adam H. Domby is assistant professor of history at the College of Charleston. He got his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2015. He has also published “Captives of Memory: The Contested Legacy of Race and Atrocity at Andersonville National Historic Site,” Civil War History (September 2017) and “American Warlord? Reconsidering “Guerrilla” Leader John Gatewood” in The Guerrilla Hunters: Exploring the Civil War’s Irregular Conflicts (LSU Press, 2017).
We continue our conversation about Julian Carr and his many frauds.
Fraud was common as our conversation about pensions illustrates. There is also a lack of Unionist memory in the South.
