The Civil War Governors of Kentucky Digital Documentary Edition (CWGK), a project of the Kentucky Historical Society, has now grouped its resources for educators onto a single page.
CWGK has two primary and secondary source readers with accompanying classroom activities available for immediate use. One covers issues of emancipation and gender through an 1863 murder trial. The other addresses veterans and the cost of war through the story of Medal of Honor winner, Robert Buffum. Both are supplemented by digital exhibits on the CWGK site and longform podcast episodes expanding on in-class content.
CWGK is also ideal for student research projects on trending historiographical issues. A list of subject guides with document excerpts and context is linked from the educator resources page.
We look forward to producing new materials throughout the 2018-2019 school year. If you would like more information or to provide feedback please contact emily.moses@ky.gov.
