Jim Harkness has worked on issues of environment and sustainability in China since the 1980s. He lived in China for 17 years, during which time he worked for the American Zoo Association, International Crane Foundation, Ford Foundation, and served as Chief China Representative for the World Wildlife Fund. He was president of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy from 2006 to 2014 and is currently the China Country Director for the National Geographic Society.
