We invite proposal abstracts (no more than 300 words) and panel proposals (3 or 4 abstracts) and a brief curriculum vitae (affiliation, rank, one or two relevant publications or presentations). Papers and panels in English or German.

Suggested topics: Austria as a European interzone; regional and global aspects of migration in Austria; Austria's response to the refugee crisis; Austria and European memory politics; ethnic minorities (Habsburg empire & after); nationalist and populist politics; 100 years First Republic; imperial, national, and European identities in former Kronländer; emigration to USA (e.g. Donauschwaben); Austrian literature & film and the "Eastern European Turn" (Brigid Haines); intercultural dialog and projects; translation; contemporary theater of migration (Jelinek, Rabinowich, etc.); Austria and Germany; Vienna as European Capital; Roman Catholicism as local and transnational identity; Neutrality as ideal and reality.
