The GHI Internship Program gives American and German students of history, political science, and library studies an opportunity to gain experience at a scholarly research institute. Interns assist individual research projects, work for the library, take part in the preparation and hosting of conferences, and help with our publications and digital projects. The program is very flexible: the GHI tries to accommodate the interns' interests, abilities, and goals. A two-month minimum stay is required; a three months stay is preferred. There is a rolling review of applications. Applicants interested in coming to Washington in 2019 are encouraged to submit their application by August 31, 2018.

Applicants should hold a BA degree or equivalent qualification. Applications should contain a cover letter, a CV, a letter of recommendation from a professor or academic advisor, and copies of university degrees/transcripts. You can apply either in English or German. Please send applications electronically in one (1) PDF file via email to Melanie Smaney (smaney@ghi-dc.org). The letter of recommendation should be sent directly by your academic advisor or professor. For further information please contact Melanie Smaney (smaney@ghi-dc.org).

The interns receive a small stipend (€ 300/month) from the GHI.
