CALL FOR PROPOSALS:  REIMAGINING SPACE, PLACE, AND BELONGING IN AUSTRIAN HISTORY, POLITICS, LITERATURE, AND FILM

DESCRIPTION:
This conference is dedicated to the scholarly examination of historical, political, literary, and cinematic works from Austria that celebrate its linguistic and cultural diversity while also dealing with the complexities of belonging and displacement, diaspora, and migration.

The period focus of the conference is the 18th-century to the present, though paper proposals addressing any timeframe are encouraged and will be considered. Presentations that include reimagining Austrian spaces through life-stories, multilingualism, migration, and notions of home and civility are especially welcome.

Please submit your abstract (250 to 300 words), together with a brief, one-paragraph biographical statement, both as email attachments, to conference organizers, Margarete Lamb-Faffelberger (lambfafm@lafayette.edu) and Barbara Kosta (bkosta@arizona.edu).

The submission deadline is December 10, 2022. Paper acceptances will be emailed in early January.

At this year’s conference, we will offer an open-topic poster session specifically for undergraduate students. Please encourage outstanding undergraduates to submit an abstract (150-200 words) on any topic related to Austrian literature, culture, history, and film to participate in the poster session.
