The Thomas Sturge Moore Collection at Senate House Library (SHL) includes some fascinating materials by the Nobel Prize winning author Sir Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941). This workshop will focus on select materials in the Tagore Papers (MS782) at SHL which have been recently digitised. They include poem transcripts by Tagore that were translated and edited by Sturge Moore at a pivotal period when Tagore was being introduced to English readers.
In addition to learning more about SHL’s Tagore collection, participants will also learn about digitisation workflows, basic principles of textual editing, and encoding documents in Markdown, a simple markup language for document transcription.
