Genocides, Deportations and Massacres: Experiences, (hi)stories and interpretations
November 14th 2020, online conference
Panel: Banyamulenge Experiences of Genocide
This panel will focus on the conference theme of “genocides and history and the formation of memory and identity” through examining the contemporary and recent history of the Banyamulenge people of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
We are calling for papers assessing the situation of the Banyamulenge in the present, the threat of genocide, and the experiences of this community with mass violence in the past. We welcome comparative approaches with other cases of contemporary violence, such as in Yemen, Cameroon, Myanmar, Burkina Faso, and other areas of the DRC. This panel is open to interdisciplinary approaches, but will aim to highlight the contemporary nature and effect of genocide in the Great Lakes region through the experiences of the Banyamulenge people.
We are looking for two papers to be proposed. Please send your submissions or questions to email@example.com by September 30th.
